Dental Services

Our office offers a wide range of dental services to meet your dental needs.

Routine

Your oral health is connected to your overall health and our dental team will work with you to try and prevent any dental issues before they occur. Our hygiene department is here to help with all your preventative needs including scaling, polishing, and assessment of your periodontal needs. Each patient will have an individualized treatment plan which may include routine cleanings, digital x-rays, fluoride applications, sealants, diet analysis, and oral hygiene instructions. Regular interval dental appointments help to ensure early detection of dental issues along with reinforcement of good habits.

Child Dentistry

Childhood dental care is essential to developing good habits from a young age and catching any early issues. We try our best to provide the most enjoyable experience possible for our younger patients and put a strong focus on preventative care through education and short interval cleanings. If required, we do offer sedation options including Nitrous Oxide (“Laughing Gas”).

Dental Fillings

Dental or ‘White’ fillings are also known as composite resin fillings and they are used to repair teeth that have been affected by decay, chipped, fractured or cracked. The colour of the composite filling can be closely matched to your natural teeth providing a very aesthetic result.

Mouth Guards

At Georgetown Dental Clinic we make in-house custom fitted mouth guards for varies needs such as sports and patients who grind or clench their teeth. These devices help to protect the teeth and support the muscles of mastication (the group of muscles associated with movements of the jaw). Our mouth guards can be fabricated around braces and come in a variety of styles and colours.

Advanced Care

Crowns

Crowns are also known as caps and they are typically made of metal and porcelain and encase the entire tooth to provide protection and strength. Crowns are very aesthetic as we customize the shape, size and colour to give a beautiful natural appearance. There are many reasons for getting a crown including repairing fractured and decayed teeth, fixing broken fillings, enhancing aesthetics, and protecting a tooth that has a large filling or root canal therapy.

Bridges

Bridges are non-removable appliances that are used to replace missing teeth. A traditional bridge replaces a single missing tooth by crowning the adjacent teeth and attaching a floating tooth to the crowns.

Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy is performed when the living tissue inside a tooth has become infected with bacteria. It involves accessing and cleaning the infected canals and filling them with a specialized filling. Signs that a tooth may require root canal therapy include but are not limited to, extreme sensitivity to hot and cold with lingering pain, pressure sensitivity, abscess or gum boil adjacent to the tooth, swelling, and occasionally the infection may be asymptomatic.

VELscope

The VELscope is a device that uses natural tissue fluorescence to improve the way our dentists examine the mucous membrane lining the inside of your mouth and screen for tissue abnormalities such as pre-cancers, cancer and other diseases. Using extra-oral head and neck examinations and intra-oral soft tissue examinations, VELscope can help detect otherwise difficult to determine oral pathologies.

Wisdom Teeth Removal

There are many reasons why you may require your wisdom teeth to be removed which can be determined by your dentist during a routine visit. Some reasons include misalignment, decay, discomfort or if they have become impacted. At Georgetown Dental Clinic we offer this procedure in our office for your comfort and to ease any anxiety that is often associated with larger medical facilities. Wisdom teeth removal is almost always done under sedation by our on-site anesthesiologist, Dr. Fabien Charbonneau.

Sedations

At GDC we understand the need for patient comfort. We can provide any level of sedation for anxious patients. The level of sedation ranges from Nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) to Oral sedations (pills or liquid), IV sedations and finally General Anaesthesia (completely asleep) with Dr. Charbonneau.

Dental Emergencies

Dental emergencies can be both painful and stressful. If you are experiencing a dental emergency, please call our office first to inform our front desk team who will ensure you are seen as promptly as possible. If you have an emergency outside of our regular office hours, please contact our 24/7 emergency call service. This line will connect you to one of our dentists who will do their best to ensure you are taken care of in a timely manner.

Cosmetic Care

Teeth Whitening (Philips Zoom in-office Whitening Treatment)

The Philips Zoom in-office whitening treatment is safe, effective and very fast. In just one hour, your teeth will be dramatically whiter and in some cases you can see up to 8 shades in difference. In addition to our in-office treatment, we offer a take-home option for those who want to whiten in the comfort of their own home. The Philips Zoom light-activated whitening gel’s active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. As the Hydrogen Peroxide gel is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, which will bleach all coloured substances while the structure of the tooth is unchanged.

Implants

Dr. Hirst has been placing and restoring dental implants since 1999. In most cases, this simplifies the entire procedure by having all of the treatment completed in one office.

Any service that we cannot provide for you, we have referrals to various excellent specialists in the surrounding area.
